About
South End Surf 'N Paddle is a family-owned surf shop on Long Beach Island. It sells new and used surfboards, paddleboards, wetsuits, skimboards and apparel, and rents boards and kayaks. The shop also runs surf lessons, kids' camps and stand-up paddleboard tours.
The shop at 220 South Bay Avenue in Beach Haven dates to 2010, according to its website. Its signature offering is a 90-minute private surf lesson that can be taken alone or with family and friends, scheduled in one or two ocean sessions a day so instructors can work around tides and conditions. Students bring a swimsuit, sunscreen and a towel; boards and other equipment are supplied.
Summer camps are split by age, with Lil Grom Camp for kids 6 to 10 and Big Grom Camp for ages 11 to 16, both run in small groups. Paddleboarding happens on the bay at Pearl Street in Beach Haven and at Bayview Park in Long Beach Township, with beginner lessons, guided eco-tours, SUP yoga and sunset paddles. Rental boards range from soft beginner surfboards to performance shapes, along with paddleboards and kayaks; life jackets come with bay rentals, a deposit may be required, and free delivery is available as needed. Booking ahead is recommended in peak season.
Lessons, tours, rentals and gift cards are booked online through FareHarbor, and the shop says it will make things right or refund in full if an experience falls short. Under its Hero's on Water program, veterans and first responders get lessons, eco-tours and rentals at no charge by checking a box when booking. Hours change with the season, so the site suggests calling (609) 492-8823. The store also does ding repair and sells South End-branded hoodies, tees and hats.
