Surf Buggy Bike Shop is a bicycle store on North Long Beach Boulevard in Surf City. The shop sells bikes, including e-bikes, and rents them with advance reservations available. It also handles bike service and repair and carries cycling apparel and accessories.
The rental fleet goes beyond basic cruisers: hybrids, bikes fitted with a baby seat or a trailer, tandems, adult trikes, kids' bikes, tag-alongs and single or double surreys are all listed. Rates are posted by the hour, day, three days and week; a cruiser is listed at $15 an hour, $30 a day or $69 a week, while surreys rent by the hour only, starting at $35. Beach carts, umbrellas and chairs can be rented too. Walk-ins are accepted, though the shop suggests calling ahead so the right size and style is ready. Anyone who buys a new bike within 30 days of renting may receive credit of up to a week's rental.
The service department handles everything from tune-ups to complete builds. The standard tune-up, listed at $99 for multi-speed bikes and $49 for single-speed and kids' bikes, covers cleaning the frame, adjusting brakes, shifting, hubs, headset and bottom bracket, lubing the chain and inflating tires. A $35 safety check covers the basics, individual repairs are priced separately, and parts are extra. Estimates are free.
For sale, the shop shows bikes from Sun Bicycles, Gazelle, Aventon, Specialized and SE Bikes, including hybrid, mountain and road e-bikes, plus parts, tires, helmets, clothing and car racks. Posted hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Thursday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
